  • Abbey900, Cirencester

This year marks the 900th anniversary of the founding of Cirencester's Augustinian Abbey of St Mary and you'll find a year-long festival in the town to celebrate. The abbey was founded by King Henry I in 1117.

The opening ceremony will be performed by the Bishop of Gloucester on 28th February in the parish church after a commemmorative tree-planting in the abbey grounds.

The celebrations will include concerts, photography and flower competitions, guided walks of the abbey, athletics events, performing arts and two re-enactments.
